Dr. Paul Lanier in one word -– REAL! There’'s no pretense. You never have to wonder what he thinks or where he stands. Although he’'s excelled academically, he communicates with such ease to people in remarkably simple ways.
His favorite things include watching the Chicago Bears (when they are winning!), good coffee, beautiful horses, great books, song writing, and Gladys Knight. His published works and music recordings reveal his rare gifts. He loves the beach and is convinced you can hear God’ inhale and exhale as the ocean waves dance across the shore line.
Dr. Lanier has been married to his wife, Debbie, since 1983. They have two children, Kaylyn and Paul, who are their first calling. He believes if you win the whole world but lose your children, you'’ve still lost!
Hope Community is a beautiful reflection of Dr. Lanier’'s own personal calling. He passionately seeks to be a bridge, connecting denominations, races, nationalities, and people from every walk of life into a unified, yet diverse Body. His prayer echoes Jesus'’ Prayer: "“Father, make us One, as you and I are One.”" Dr. Lanier believes when the world witnesses the Church living and loving as One, they will believe in the Beloved Jesus.
Did we mention he REALLY loves the Chicago Bears?!!!!
Education
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Music from East Coast Bible College (Pentecostal)
• Master of Science Degree in Pastoral Ministries from the Church of God School of Theology (Pentecostal)
• Master of Theology in Christian Spirituality from Sydney College of Divinity/Centre for Christian Spirituality (Roman Catholic)
• Doctor of Ministry Degree from Erskine Theological Seminary (Presbyterian)
• Studied Wesleyan Studies at Duke University (Methodist)
• Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) locally at North Carolina Baptist Hospital
• Consecrated as Bishop in the International Communion of Charismatic Churches in 1997, and serves as a member of the College of Bishops
About Our Bishop -
Paul Francis Lanier was born into a family of Ministry.
Though his great-grandparents came from the Methodist tradition, his grandparents on both sides of the family pastored in the Church of God. His parents pastored faithfully throughout North Carolina and West Virginia. Uncles, cousins, as well as all his siblings,
are in full-time Christian Ministry.
Isn'’t it just the most incredible thought that the God who created all we see, all we know and experience, all we enjoy, longs more than anything else to interact with you and me? It seems unimaginable. It sounds downright absurd, but it’'s not! The heart of God delights in us, knows the deepest cravings of our soul, and desires that we intimately relate to Him as He lovingly relates to us.
I don’'t know where you find yourself today. In fact, I may not know very much about you at all, but I’'ve got great news! God does! He sees you. He hears you. He yearns to be invited into the very center of our lives so that we can taste Fulfillment! Purpose! Passion! The Father invites you and me to the Good Life!
Maybe you’'re just beginning this journey of Faith or perhaps you'’re simply looking for a fresh perspective that ignites a deeper devotion in God. Regardless, Hope Community may be the place for you. It’'s a “community” of believers who is generous in their love for people (trust me!), intentional in their Worship of God (beautiful and passionate!), and eager to become more and more like the Jesus who walked the earth (they understand that salvation is so much more than a single decision!).
WARNING! Before further consideration of Hope Community, you must know that this Body of Believers is REAL! They authentically pursue Christ daily and seek to grow in Him; however, they never believe the lie that they have arrived. By the way, the leaders haven'’t either.
As a people, we fully recognize that culture is waiting for the Church to actually embody this Christ we say we adore. If unbelievers could see God’'s people personifying His potent Love and unshakable Truth, such a witness could dramatically impact the world around us. The Christians'’ privilege is to personify the very Presence of Christ on planet Earth, transforming every arena of life into a beacon of Hope that all points back to God.
